Radar guns can be handheld, mounted on a vehicle, or attached to a traffic signal. Radar detectors can only detect doppler radar-based units and do not detect piezo sensors, VASCAR technology, or ANPR.

Police officers can use LIDAR guns to measure the speed of individual, specific vehicles in heavy traffic. They simply look through the site, target a car, and pull the trigger.
